In a disaster situation, police, fire, and ambulance services will be overwhelmed and won’t be available immediately to respond to emergencies. WE will be the first responders, so we must be ready.  CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training helps you prepare to help yourself, your family and your neighborhood in the event of an emergency.

CERT classes, taught by the LA Fire Department, are FREE.  They are open to everyone over 18, including those who took the course previously and want to refresh their skills.  The training consists of seven weekly 2-1/2 hour evening classes.  If you miss a class, you can go to any other location to make it up.

You will learn to:
  • prepare for emergencies;
  • manage utilities and put out small fires;
  • treat the three medical killers by opening airways, controlling bleeding, and treating for shock;
  • provide basic medical aid;
  • search for and rescue victims safely;
  • effectively organize volunteers;
  • and collect disaster intelligence to support first responder efforts.
